JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
The Concrete Superintendent will be responsible for the coordinating all site construction activities and supervising all field personnel as required to successfully complete the project on schedule and within budget. This involves overseeing the successful completion of a project from beginning to end while maintaining the highest standards in quality by supervising all trade and field personnel and administering good construction safety practices. May also engage in the same concrete construction work as the workers being supervised.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support the Project Manager by directing the workflow of ongoing projects consistently with the project schedule and budget
  • Recognize and communicate to Project Manager any priority projects or problems, such as employee or job costing issues and complaints from the public.
  • Communicate project priorities to subcontractors
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Coordinate, direct and lead workers engaged in concrete construction activities. Assign work to employees, using material and worker requirements data.
  • Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork and pride.
  • Review and verify employee time sheets and submit to Office Staff on specified days. Ensure that hours are assigned properly.
  • Regularly communicate with maintenance staff about repair and maintenance needs on all major pieces of equipment on assigned jobs.
  • Relate to the public and to customers in a professional, courteous and respectful manner, appropriately responding to their complaints.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of administration and management. Must be able to plan, allocate resources, manage production and coordinate people and equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in concrete construction.
  • Ability to read construction documents, layout foundations/slabs and verify dimensions, elevations and proper condition of prep work to reduce overages of materials.
  • Ability to perform concrete takeoffs, utilizing construction drawings and/or field measurements.
  • Ability to perform quality control inspections to ensure all reinforcement is properly placed, vapor barrier is installed correctly, insulation is installed correctly and all other specific requirements are in place to provide a quality finished product.
  • Ability to load, unload and operate basic construction equipment, including transporting to and from project sites as required.

  • Strong mathematical abilities and the ability to remember words, numbers and other information. Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Directly supervises employees of their job sites and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience and training must include methods, techniques, equipment and hands-on experience in a supervisory position.
  • A minimum of four to eight years of related skill, knowledge or experience is needed for these occupations. Must include related on-the-job training and experience in concrete construction practices.
  • Technical training; exposure to high-speed equipment
  • Must have and maintain a driver’s license with appropriate classification to operate commercial vehicles that tow equipment trailers.
  • Basic computer and phone skills.
  • OSHA certification
  • ASI certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Some heavy lifting and considerable moving of equipment required.
  • Lifting of objects up to 100 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical equipment and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and concrete.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object.
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Excellent stamina is required.
